[68Ga]DOTA-IR-780-C-4 is an investigational radiopharmaceutical developed for the targeted positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of prostate cancer. The molecular probe comprises the positron-emitting radionuclide **Gallium-68 (68Ga)** chelated by **DOTA**, which is conjugated to a derivative of the heptamethine cyanine dye **IR-780** (specifically the C-4 chain variant). It specifically targets the **Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA)**, a type II transmembrane glycoprotein that is significantly overexpressed on the surface of prostate cancer cells and their associated metastases. Developed by researchers at the **Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University**, this agent is designed to provide high-contrast visualization of PSMA-positive lesions to assist in tumor localization, staging, and the detection of biochemical recurrence. While the IR-780 scaffold is traditionally known for its mitochondrial-targeting and near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) properties, in this application, it serves as a targeting ligand to enhance the detection of PSMA-positive malignancies via PET imaging.
